Travelling with kids

We are a homeschooling family. We want to hit the road and travel around Australia for a year or two. The only thing we are struggling with is what to do about income. We are saving at the moment and almost have enough for 6 months. My husband is taking his holidays in one big hit so we will have a couple of months income there too.
At the moment we are doing extra jobs (house cleaning, gardening, dog walking, house sitting, child sitting etc) to save up more. We have no credit cards and we arent taking out a loan to do this. The whole point is to show our kids that if you want something then you have to work hard for it.
Has anyone travelled and worked along the way? Or what have you done for income?
