Family holidays, Bali

Family holidays, Bali

I'm looking at a trip to Bali soon, with my son (who will be 6) and also my parents (my father has been multiple times, but not since the 80s/90s & mum has been once)

We are looking at staying in either South Kuta or Legian, slightly out of the hustle and bustle. Has anyone had any experience with staying in these areas, if so would you recommend them for a family trip.

Another big thing for me, is budget.
I have a roughy guide for accommodation and flight cost,
But I want to budget for any sneaky costs?
Also shopping, I'm mostly interested in picking up cheap bargains at markets etc
I plan on taking 2 changes of clothes for me and my son, with buying the rest over there.
Would any of you IMs have any suggested budget PP per day, for food, shopping, transport, occasional sightseeing and activities and the occasional cocktail?
*also we are planning to stay for approx 8 nights. I want to do the trip on a reasonable budget, but I want the trip to be quite comfortable. I am a shopper, but as a single mother I do love a good bargain!

Time will be spent Mostly just adventuring out on our own, spending time at markets, local restaurants, beaches, at the resort and the possibility to hire a driver for a couple days to venture out to see temples and other beautiful sights the country has to offer.
Any places that are a must-see or things to be wary of would also be great.
I have heard $100 per day is plenty,
But we do plan on filling and buying suitcases there to bring home full of clothes, shoes etc

Yes if that area is what youre after, once youre a few minutes away its much quieter in the hotel.
Id also recommend ubud. Its a rainforest village, surrounded by rainforest and rice paddies, has a massive art market that sells everything they have in kuta and more, and plenty of cafes and restaurant. Also where the monkey forest is. Much more chilled village for kids.
You can get a driver for about $30 a day to take you around.
You can spend as much or as little as you choose. Theres $2 dresses at the market $10 dresses in the shops and $100 dresses in boutiques. And the same with meals.

Hi, thanks for the reply!
I did look into Ubud, as it looks absolutely beautiful. But we definitely want to within walking distance of the coast :)
That is so cheap for a driver. I'm definitely looking into hiring one for a day or two to visit more secluded areas.
