Foster parenting

Any single working mum's who are foster carers? What was the process of joining like? Why did you decide to foster parent? (I am a single mum of two younger children, i earn very good money, and am considering becoming a foster carer because i believe in helping others in time of need if/when possible). I'm interested in positive and negative feedback of mum's who have foster parented. I'm particularly interested in providing respite/emergency care.

The rules vary from state to state.
In SA
I had to have a spare bedroom
Had to pass police clearance
Anyone I have regular contact with has to pass police clearance
Any pets need to be kept in a 'run' away from the foster child
Need to be able to take time off of work if a child is placed in your care (so unless your work is ok with calling in at the last minute emergency work wouldn't be possible)
My son had to be over a certain age

I had to undergo training sessions and be a qualified mandatory reporter of child abuse etc

The pets were an issue for me. I didn't get pets so they can be locked outside in a run. I had the pets first so not fair on them.
