Moving to the uk.

Hi Everyone.
My husband and I have been discussing moving to the uk. We will be moving with one dependant, possibly two. We have been reading several sites to get info. We have family we can stay with while getting settled and finding a place. Our questions are, what are other peoples experiences? , what sort of costs? (We think a min of 10,000 will be needed to move our stuff). How did other people plan?. How long did you plan for?. I can live and work in the uk as a citizen but my husband will need to apply for a visa. Any help would be appreciated. We love Aus, but we want an adventure.
