Hi IM's.
I have been looking into doing a Medical Receptionist course and would like to know if anyone can suggest if they have done this through an online course and if so how long, how much and exactly how long until you got a job in the field?
Thanks ?

Great choice! Look into Cert. 3 in Medical Administration - with this you'll gain employment at lots of places. Lots of the time hospitals look for people however there are soooo many jobs going around. You pretty much do it at your own pace, I believe online the minimum is about 9 months to complete it (that's the soonest you can) however places will take you whilst you're training just on a lesser wage. You could even contact places regarding a trainee position which is where you study whilst working and they'll cover your course fees (they love doing this as they get a huge rebate). The ones I looked into were about $2500 however if you have a concession card it's much cheaper. Good luck :D
Look into doing it as a traineeship. 1 year at a reduced income but it's much easier to learn on the job then via distance learning. (I did a Cert 3 in Business - Office Admin).
There are extra payments available via centrelink for adult trainees.
I am a 2ic to a room of medical receptionists in radiology. I had no qualifications and majority of my staff had no medical experience either. What we look for is how you interview and your phone manner, your willingness to learn, how you fit in with our current team and your cover letter resume. Also look in to the pay rates for a medical receptionist you may be surprised even with a certificate you will be entry level having no experience. You could be better off looking for an entry level position and doing on the job training rather than a course... just my experience
