Help a mama out?

Hi mamas,
I'm just conducting some research to try and change the way childcare is provided to children with additional needs. I've created a short survey that I'd love anyone who has a child with additional needs to fill out. It doesn't matter what 'sort' of needs your child has, all of your experiences could potentially help change this for the better. Please follow the link below and feel free to share with your friends and family. Thankyou so much!

Did you know that there is an inhome service that provides this service? It's through the Centrelink Carelink centres 1800 052 222
Also this kind of casual care is being funded through the NDIS.

It's Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre you're referring to, and it's all changing as NDIS rolls out. No longer is there 'respite', you have to write it in your (person with disability's) plan as something different. My local CRCC branch is only funded til next year so former 'Carer' supports will be little to none

Yes, I did :) unfortunately finding the actual carer can be a bit difficult, although I'm not sure how it will look once the NDIS comes through as we haven't got it here yet, but hopefully it'll be a little better than it is currently!

We book our carers through an agency. We can have a known carer. We have about 6 carers who know my sons needs and have knowledge of his communication system.
They arrive with a folder thick of information on my son. They not only know my sons needs they know our pets needs, they do our housework if my son is asleep etc. about the only thing they don't do, is wash my clothes as I like to do that myself.

Sometimes we've had to use a 'fill in' and they always come fully informed about my son and we've never had an issues.

We would stretch funding further by hiring private carer ourselves, rather than through an organisation but then you don't have a bank of carers to call on in case one is sick etc.

My concern also, living in a regional area, even if therapies and support workers are funded, it doesn't mean we can find anyone, particularly anyone suitable....
