Hosting International students for extra income - seeking experiences

**InternationalExchange students as a means of extra income. Seeking advice/experiences**

Has anyone hosted an international exchange student for extra income? What was your experience? How did your family/children enjoy it? Would you do it again?

Friends of ours did this for many years. There own kids were teenagers and at uni and they usually chose university students as they are a lot more independent and mostly do there own thing (show up for dinner and breakfast but looked after themselves and didn't need parenting).
There kids made lifelong friends but they are extremely social outgoing people.
They did do some touristy type things from time to time.

If they're school age you won't really make an income as such. Honestly we hosted quite a few when I was in school and they come here to see the sights and culture so we took them so many places that they couldn't afford (so spent a lot more than the daily allowance). We didn't want to be "that" family that was boring. If you host older ones though then you can do it for income, but I'd more recommend renting a bedroom out on airbnb or similar for a student without the expectation of providing much more than a home :)

The area I live in has many English language students and people do take them in for the money (rent is astronomical). My friend does it and I feel sorry for these young people, they get the bare minimum and no homely mumsy type warmth
