Mums drinking alcohol

Mums drinking alcohol

How often do you drink? When do you drink?
I'm a white wine drinker. Some nights i open a bottle of wine while cooking dinner. While cooking dinner i check on the kids in the backyard, 4 or 5 times, always topping up my glass before i head out.
Some nights i can finish a bottle of wine before dinner is even ready to eat.
If i don't have any wine then i don't drink - simple!
I'm just wondering, how much is too much??

I am similar but I guess it becomes an issue if you can't go without. So if you find yourself having it every single night and start getting a dependency on it. I try now to have 3 or 4 nights just with soda water in my wine glass so I still feel like I am having a treat!! And it saves money!

Lately hubby and I have been having between half a glass to a glass (or maybe he's had more) most nights. It's just a nice way for us to finish the night plus with the baby we only see each other for about an hour or so each day lately. Occasionally we'll share a bottle of champagne or have a couple of beers on the weekend. It's only been in the last week when we've done the glass of wine..usually we would have maybe a beer or two perhaps 0-3 times a week but it would depend on the week.

I drink a couple of times a year if I am lucky and I don't even have a drink of choice. I feel like I am an alien, all you read on fb is about mums who drink wine, I don't get it, don't you have a hangover in the morning lol? I would suggest not drinking for a few days, if you don't care and don't crave it, then you don't have a problem I guess.

I'm the same! I have no desire to drink- it just doesn't appeal to me at all. I'd be lucky to drink one or two nights a year,! My husband thinks I'm an alien. He always wants us to have a drink but it's just not something I need or want. I'm happy to sit and have a cuppa! 😂

Same! I like that I'm bringing my kids up in a non alcholic culture/Aussie tradition boozey lifestyle.

We have plenty of fun without grog, zero hangovers and save money.

There are healthier ways to 'unwind' and 'treat' yourself at the end of the day.

If I open a bottle of wine I'd only drink one glass, so the bottle lasts me awhile.

I would drink more on a special occasion but probably only 6 drinks.

I was a big drinker before kids so Im surprised Im not one of the wine in hand mums.
I go from sober to drunk so quickly now and with kids its not cool so Im more likely to have none. I can keep an open bottle in the fridge for a month, if I drank a bottle before dinner Id be a mess.

I only drink for occasions. I occasionally think about having one or two on a Friday or Saturday night but because I don't drink that often, I'd probably be plastered. And then I worry if something were to happen and I had to flee the house with the kids, I might be too drunk 😅 I am a worry wort though.

I depend on coffee the way you do your wine. I wish my coffee cup was never ending..

I'm an alcoholic in recovery. Be careful :)
One thing I learnt from treatment is there are many forms of addiction issues to alchohol.
Some people may just binge on weekends, some people may just drink a bottle or two of wine a night, some may drink a bottle of vodka before 12pm. I think for you it sounds like once you open a bottle you will probably finish it, not just have a glass.
Maybe try not buying one for a week. See how you go. Try buying a bottle and having 1 glass that night. If you find it's a struggle I would maybe look further into it.
Right now it might not be causing any issues in your life and parenting but what happend to me and many others is it was a very slow progress into full blown alcoholism. I went from a cocktail at the end of the day to a few glasses of wine to a few bottles of wine to drinking vodka when I woke up. It was about a 5 year process but I wish I had of stopped and gotten help when I was just drinking one bottle of wine a night ):

That's a very good point! It's like people who sit down and eat a whole block of chocolate instead of just 3 or 4 squares because once it's there they can't help themselves... I think maybe this lady is like that with wine?

Yes binge eater here, but then I'd binge on grog if it was in front of me. Food is harder to avoid...

I guess medically speaking you would fall under the category of a binge drinker but so does the bloody queen 😂😂
What is too much is different for everybody, there's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a wine or two from time to time but I think when you start dealing with the effects of over indulging on a regular basis (i.e you're waking up hungover regularly, you're feeling sluggish, or you can just feel it's affecting your overall health, amongst other things) then that's when it's starting to be an issue in my opinion.

Slightly off topic but I know a person who almost got done for drink driving heading off to work the morning after finishing a bottle of wine, she thought she was fine and wouldn't have driven if she'd realised. She was lucky and only marginally over the limit so she wasn't charged.
I know everyone metabolizes alcohol at different rates, it's worth keeping in mind though 😊

There is no 'limit' really, it a problem when you start depending on it.
Can you go a week or a month without drinking? I use to be a heavy drinker and actually sent myself off to rehab because I started drinking a case of beer in one sitting, and probably do this between 2-4 times a week, for me it got to the point where I needed a drink not want and that's when I knew I had a problem obversely had to hit rock bottom before I could admit it. I started self medicating after I was diagnosed with post natal depression, anyway that was my 'gateway' into becoming an alcoholic. I was sober for 4 years and recently started having a drink here and there, for me now I can have one or two and be done, but I now no to look for the signs if it comes to me needing a drink to the point I get angry etc I know it's time to have a break from the drinking life once again.
But I do enjoy a few beers or glasses of wine after work on a Friday and yes I have downed a few bottles here and there. So 'limits' are really differ from person to person, Sally may be able to have a bottle of wine every few days and then stop without issues but Mary downs a bottle and needs to go back for more to the point she is blind drunk and will continue doing this daily etc.
You'll know when it 's a problem, sorry fort he novel just wanted to add some backstory and insider look.

So, if you don't have wine you don't drink. Can you have wine in the house and not drink it?

I drink once or twice a year, and when I drink I usually get drunk (childless weekend/no responsibility). My husband is similar, he may drink a couple times more throughout the year. For example he got given a cartoon of his favorite beer 5 months ago and he's taken out two beers when he went to a mates to watch footy. I do feel like we are not the 'norm' though.
I agree with the other posters, if you can go without wine for a couple of weeks I don't think its to much of an issue. Feeling the 'need' to drink every night or even 5 nights a week, I woukd consider getting some early intervention before things get out of hand.

Unless you find it hard to go without alcohol for a few days or weeks, the only problem I see with this is what happens if there's an emergency and you need to drive? If you've got the best part of a bottle under your belt, you'd be in no fit state to drive.

How often are you drinking?
Do you always finish the bottle?

I probably average 2-3 glasses of wine a week. I tend not to buy it otherwise I would probably have it more than I should. If I were to have one while cooking it would just be the one and I would sip sip sip. Then maybe another with dinner. I think a bottle to yourself is way too much.

I'm the same, love having a bottle of wine in the arvo /while cooking,
Kids are happy playing, well looked after,
Sometimes even sit out the front with a neighbour and watch the kids play,
My hubby is fifo so I feel it's my time to chill and unwind for the day,
I'd prob do this 3/4 times a week
Some will obviously say it's to much but it's your life!!!😉

You asking the question means you know it's too much.

Can you drink just one glass then stop?
Can you go a week without any alcohol, what about a month?

I was a binge drinker in my younger years. If I have a drink now it still goes down too darn fast, so I don't drink at all, well, very very rarely. And I've never drank on my own, or when I'm the only adult around for the kids

Not to scare you but I became an alcoholic drinking wine and found I craved it when I tried to stop and would obsess about the next opportunity I could drink again. I would drink wine while hubby was at work and I was meant to be responsible for two young kids. My drinking increased and it became a battle each day until I started going to aa & became a mum in recovery & now almost 4 years sober - which I'm so grateful for. It's not been easy at times but giving up drinking has been the second best thing I've ever done - the first is having my boys & hubby & overall our relationship is much better & im happier too. Good luck on your journey but do be careful some people can't control it (like me) & that's ok but there is help out there & being sober is a great way to live for me 💕

I was one of those goody two shoes who didn't drink at all until my kids were older. I don't want to risk driving with anything in system so don't drink through week. Chances are if I walked I probably would have Johnny on the rocks while cooking every night lmao
