Does anyone else’s child fall asleep too easily? My child has always taken naps during the day .. he falls asleep very easily even just in the car ! He’s 4 turning 5 and is now in school and has been falling asleep in class.( I know it’s only the first week) He sleeps very well at night and for around 9-10 hrs straight . Yet He still manages to have to sleep during the day. I’ve tried cutting naps in the last 6 months but it has not worked and he has fallen asleep regardless. He has a good diet and has taken blood tests with no known issues to doctors . What can I do to stop him from falling asleep in school ..? Is there a multivitamin for children that would help? I don’t want him missing out on learning because he’s too tired to stay awake 😢

4 turning 5 is still very young. I see some students who are 6 turning 7 on prep so they are developmentally further along and seem to cope with the rigors of school more easily.
Most students adapt eventually but do consider the possibility of maybe waiting another year. Talk to the teacher though - they may have some advice for you.
Some kids just need more sleep than others. My friends boy is one of them.
I’d be very prepared to delay school for a year. Kids don’t have to start at this age and school is more than academics.
My son was still having naps at four when in kinder, by five when he went to school he didn’t need them. He’s very young to be at school, I agree, another year at home never hurts.
It's normal because hes still so young and school is so full on. It's common in the very little ones.
hell be better at staying awake a full school day next year.
My youngest daughter is 7 next month, she still enjoys a nap - perfectly healthy, she just needs the sleep! Her first year of school, she'd literally fall asleep 5 minutes after walking in the door at 3.30, I'd have to wake her for dinner then she'd be ready for bed again at 7.30 lol.
I remember my very energetic sons first few weeks of school too, he was so exhausted one day he dug himself a hole in the sandpit and went to sleep 😂😂
Try bringing him straight home and give him an early dinner, get the night time routine happening and get him to bed nice and early (I know this isn't always possible though).
Does he go to before or after school care? That can make them extra tired. Or allow him to have a cat nap after school to hopefully give him a bit more energy for the next day.
I'd say it's just an adjustment phase and he's still quite little.
He is still really little. Until recently he still would have been in a program where they have naps. If he isn't coping see if you can talk to the teacher about possible
Solutions. He might be able to have quiet time or get him to have a nap after school. Or give him another year and start again next year. Do 4 days instead of 5. Lots of solutions just discuss.
He was in kindy 5 days a week and taking naps.. they cut out naps in the last 6-8 months for all kids but he still struggled to miss them. He’s in prep now and in Queensland it is 5 days per week ( full time school) pulling him out of school is not an option as both his father and I work full time. It’s only first week so hopefully he will get used to it , he is also on iron shops which was recommended by the doctor do to blood results showing low iron . So hopefully that helps ☺️
Can he go back to childcare/family day care for another year? School is so full on for little ones and with low iron, it would be even harder for your little guy. So does he also go to after school care? If so, that would be so full on for him, he may not be physically ready.
Also go see a naturopath
What ever happened to rest time at school?
He should be having 10-12 hours sleep.
Talk to your doctor about doing a sleep study, but getting more sleep at night might help. Strict bedtime routines too.
My kids were always good sleepers, and would often fall asleep on the way home from kinder/school.
My boys all needed 6:30 bedtimes in prep. Its tough during day light savings but there is no way they could cope without going to bed that early. They needed their 12 hours. Xx
