Written job applications

When a job advertisement asks for a written application to be posted in what does that actually mean? Does the whole thing literally need to be written? Can I hand write just the cover letter and print out the resume? Or does it just mean that it can all be typed but needs to be printed off and posted in rather than applying via email..?

My thought would be printed cover letter and resume, mailed in. Or call them and ask if there is an email you could use.

Printed and posted.
Unless they say emailed or online.
If they wanted handwritten they would stipulate that but not many would ask for that.

Meaning you can't express interest or apply over the phone or in person - they want something in writing, either posted or emailed. Be sure to include a cover letter expressing you are applying for the role.
