Going back to full time work - how to manage life

Some advice please. I currently work 3 days a week and have the opportunity to take on a great job in a similar role that’s better pay and closer to home. But it’s full time.

We have 3 kids, one primary, two in high school so managing after school gets busy. How have other mums made the transition?

I feel that after putting in the hard yards after all these years, managing daycare, kinder and everything in between that it’s finally my time. Hubby isn’t as keen for me to do this as he worries how we will manage with two parents working full time.

I appreciate any advice/suggestions on what others have done. Note: we have no family living close by so relatives no help.

You must be super organised. Dinners school lunches snacks cleaning. Hubby needs to be doing his fair share so you don't end up exhausted and stressed. Organise reliable afterschool care and get your high school kids to be doing a couple of jobs as well. Good luck. It is busy and hectic but worthwhile if it is what you want.

Meal plan, Cook in bulk and freeze, or make use of a slow cooker to take care of dinners.

Your kids are a good age and can/should learn to take care of their own areas of the house - bathroom, bedrooms etc. I wash clothes at night and get them ready for the next day, I ensure all dishes are packed away in the dishwasher and the kitchen is clean.

Maybe do online grocery shopping to save some time, use weekends to catch up on housework. It totally can work. It just takes a bit of planning.

Get a cleaner even only a few hours a week, it has saved us both working full time and I children younger than yours. Totally doable but don’t put too much pressure on yourself if some weeks you have to have more simpler meals! Get hubby to also share the load so you don’t end up exhausted each day and your older kids. I went back full time for first time in 8 years and it’s been a transition but so nice to have some extra 💰!! Also to know that I have a solid career and opportunities outside of my parenting role.
