Unless baby needs something specific (reflux or lactose intolerance for example), it really comes down to personal preference.
I went with ones that were around the $20 mark- S26 origional was good, I'd stock up when it was on special too.
The cheapie ones you tend to get what you pay for (usually $12 - 15 range) but then the $30+ ranges are extortionate prices for milk, unless like I already mentioned your bub needs something specific.
If you have a good pharmacy near by they may be able to help you chose something based on baby's needs too.
Good luck!
My first was mixed fed. I used S26 because that's what she was given in the hospital
Just make sure its affordable and commonly available and at places that are open late!
We started with Nan Comfort in the hospital, however we always intended on using Aldi formula as it’s super cheap and isn’t one that seems to be in high demand and run out often. There’s only been two times my local store has ran out so I made the trip to the next store and they had plenty. I don’t have to worry about where or when that next tin will be available :)
I disagree that you get what you pay for with the cheaper ones, as they all have to meet the very strict Australian guidelines to be sold.
I used the Aldi baby formula. Great price and never had issues. S26 is definitely good too though :-)
I went with Aptamil Gold. Its mid-range but gentler on baby's stomach. We tried S26, but my first one got horribly constipated.
I have recently had to supplement my bub with formula as I am not producing enough milk for him. A friend of mine who works in pharmacy recommended the Nan brand as it contains probiotics for baby’s tummy. Make sure you don’t mix it with water over 40 degrees as it will kill all of the good bacteria. My bub has been doing well on it so far
It comes down to how well baby tolerates it and your budget. My eldest started on s26 because that was recommended by other mums. After a couple of months I changed to another cheaper brand (can’t remember what it was). He had no issues with either. My youngest was in special care for two months and mostly had EBM. On the days I didn’t express enough they gave him s26 with seemingly no issues. Before he came home we changed him to the cheaper brand his brother had taken as well as stopping EBM. He ended up constipated. Went back to s26, still constipated. Eventually his paediatrician suggested NAN as it is processed a little bit more, making it gentler on baby’s tummy and more easily digestible. No more constipation! He was tube fed for quite a few years so we did end up moving on to a soy formula due to possible lactose intolerance, before changing to a low allergen prescription only formula. Both caused constipation. Unfortunately the vomiting was something he just had to grow out of.
