Hey!
So about 3 months ago my partner and father of my children and I separated.
I’m only receiving Centrelink payments at the moment and it’s looking like I’m going to have to go back to work to earn a decent amount to live off.
My question is, how do single parents make any decent amount of money. I get around $1100 a fortnight from Centrelink. I did a rough calculation and if I went back to work for around 30 hours a week with the children in kinder and childcare I would only be making $1100 a fortnight.
How do any single parents get ahead? Short of finding a cash in hand job, I don’t really know what to do.
Where could I go to work all this out? I’m so confused and stressed over it all.

It’s stressful. Very stressful.
But you still get some perks of Centrelink, like added family tax benefit, child support (if your lucky!) and you get to keep your health care care. All good perks.
To get in front (and stay in front) firstly secure the job.
Speak to Centrelink about childcare as their is reduced rates. Lock in those cheaper rates!
Tax time is when things often look up. At tax time, put cash away for things like rego, insurances, Christmas and birthdays.
Secure the work for when school time comes, because it’ll help you massively!
Trust me!!
Good luck! You’ve got this!
You still get ftb. So you can get close to $2000. afortnight with spp ftb and wage or more if you earn more. I think spp have it hardest for stress but best for financial help
We get an education and work hard in our careers. You don’t wake up one morning and earn decent money, it takes time, hard work and a lot of effort. Working is always better than Centrelink, stop comparing, you get super and you build yourself a career. Broken up, think I might need to go back to work, actually you WILL have to work and when your spp stops, you will go on the dole.
Yes this!
Some of us single mothers are educated and have good jobs! I hate the assumption that we aren’t. I work full time and have never received Centrelink. You do what you have to dob
