Move to our dream lifestyle or make a move in my career

Hi all,

I am just seeking some thoughts on some big life decisions or if anyone has had to make similar decisions. The two things that i am trying to choose between are a move for my family and our dream lifestyle or putting that on hold for a few more years and climb the career ladder. I have climbed the ladder quickly already as a nurse by the age of 28 being a nurse educator. I am also someones succession plan for a Nurse Unit Manager position this year. I realise that this could be a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional growth, however it will come with stressors and we have young children. I am torn on whether to apply for this position or let that go at this point in time and have a crack at it when they are in school. If i do not apply we will be choosing the other option and we would be moving from suburbia to a property on an acre and living our dream surrounded by animals and kids having a ball on motorbikes. We have wanted this for the last 4 years but I have been working my way up. I have been feeling a little bit over the stressors of my current job for the last 12 months (plus organisational changes) and instead enjoyed time over the christmas holidays with the kids that really made me delve and think about what is important now and what should i choose to do? My partner is much happier as are we as a family when i am not stressed ofcourse! Thanks for reading and happy to hear what peoples thoughts are!

Life’s too short! Enjoy your kids while they are little once they are independent you will have heaps more time on your hands for the career/stressful job 🤗

I would apply for the job first. If you get it make the decision then. If you don't (always a possibility however remote that someone better will swoop in and get it) you have your answer. Although I tend to agree that while your kids are preschool age they should be the priority for both you and your partner.

I would 100% make the move. It sounds amazing and perfect. As someone who works in the same industry, the opportunity to become a num will come again. After all, you are only 28 and have so many years ahead of you to get to where you want to be career wise. However, you won't get this time back with your family. It sounds like you have some very exciting changes coming your way. Congratulations and good luck.
