Changing primary schools.
I need some advice, my oldest is in year 2 his currently enrolled in a fairly good public school and has been since prep his grades are always good however it has recently come to my attention how unorganized his school is. Little things like homework is never checked or marked but on reports they say always handed in and marked (I know for a fact he was hiding his homework for the entire of last term last year) activity notes dont go out until the day before eg - swimming everyday consecutive from today until the 1st all needs to be paid before they go...the note was literally sent home yestetday along with an emergency email.....they know my son has a disability and will be in a wheel chair for the last half of this year as he will be getting reconstruction on both feet but they have put him in a upstairs no wheel chair access room and when I spoke to the office about it they were just like oh that's a bit unlucky like what are we supposed to do . I'm seriously considering changing his school but I was a kid who changed schools at every wim I found it so hard to settle because of this we are also considering moving towns at the end of the year so I'm like do I change him for the benifit of this year do we stick it out with the school his at what am I supposed to do he is always saying kids don't want to play with him and he wants to change schools but like I said I was that kid and my mum just kept letting me change which too this day I don't think was the 'right' decision for a kid I never learnt to deal with my problems or people which leads me to ask myself am I doing this with my son by changing him or is it the right choice ?

Ok, so it's still start of term and they have until that magical day 8 to fianlise everything, so it can seem very unorganized and last minute. The homework thing again, maybe they don't really care about homework- not to the point of making a huge deal about it, maybe they understand the stress it can cause in households especially with a disabled child also. You could speak to them about it.
To me I don't see these as major issues. I do see classroom access as a priority.
Send them an email regarding wheelchair access. Tell them the date and ask for a definite answer on what will happen.
I thought legally all areas have to be wheelchair accessible 🤷♀️
My high school had an elevator, people who needed it had access to it with a key and that was going back 15 years. My kids primary school often makes adjustment to cater to students with limited mobility too, so I find this rather baffling also!
OP. I would not be keen on moving schools if you're planning on moving 12 months down the track, I feel like moving schools twice in a year would be likely to have a bit of a disruptive effect.
Obviously the wheel chair accessibility is a huge issue that they need to rectify but I could live with the other issues temporarily.
They do. Under the anti discrimination act all public places must be accessible.
My sons school has just installed an elevator because one of the students who is an amputee is in year 3 now which is in the 2nd level and obviously can’t walk up the stairs
I have a feeling they get away with it as nobody asks. If someone asked or just enrolled and needed access they would be bound to make it accessible.
I’d take it further, don’t just speak to office staff. Put all the issues in writing to the principal and CC it to the regional director of dept of Ed ie the boss of the principal, and I’d CC your local MP too.
I’m so sick of this shit, we too often put up n shut up, quietly move our kids all the while discrimination continues right under everyone’s noses
Oh and re the notes and stuff - if they had a online parent portal or fb page, they could keep everyone informed digitally, or simply send out emails 🤷♀️
