Sweet lord that will be a big baby. My eldest was born at 35 weeks and he was 2.5 kg, the last 4 weeks is the fat storing stage so he missed out on that. I am quite surprised they have estimated that weight actually? My baby had a few feeding problems and had bad jaundice, overall it was a 10 day hospital stay but no NICU. Wishing you all the best x
My son was born at 34 weeks weighing in at just 5lb and didn’t need to be in NICU. He did have a little bit of jaundice and wouldn’t go on the boob but had no issues with the bottle and was home 8 days later.
A midwife would be able to confirm or explain why but apparently 37 is better than 38 weeks. Something to do with the development stages. Bub might not have to be in NICU and even if they do that’s ok. Sometimes the early ones just spend some time in the nursery.
Five kids and I don’t think I was ready for any of them. You’ll be fine. Don’t let your thoughts and fears run away with you, you’ve got some amazing times ahead and you don’t want to miss them worry about what may happen. X
I had both of mine 37 weeks, we went home after 2 days. Not sure about under 37 weeks though. 7-8lbs is a good size. Theyre not always right with weight estimates but in my experience only 1oz off.
Mine were 8lbs1oz, 10lbs2oz.
My first was born at 36+1 she was 6p1 and perfect. Born in a low risk country hospital and stayed in my room the whole time. Was home within a couple of days
At that late gestation, bubs will most likely end up in scn - special care nursery
It night have issues with
Breathing
Blood sugar
Temp
Suck/swallow
Its hard to tell how long, as each babe and hospital is different
Ask your dr for more info
Ask ypur hospital for a tour fd the scn
My youngest was born at 34 weeks and was 6lbs. He was is special care nursery for just under 2 weeks.
When I went into labour they tried to get steroids into me for his lungs but the labour was too fast. He is now a very healthy and happy 10 year old.
The hardest thing was not being able to touch him for a couple of days and going home while he was still in hospital. When my eldest who was 2 at the time would come up to the hospital he would ask why his brother lived in a "cubby" now and not at home.
