Studying whilst working full time with a family

Hey! Hope you’re all well.

I was just wondering for those who work and study with kids how do people juggle it all?

I’m in the UK doing an Open University degree part time and I’m going into my second to last year, so I’m so close and so determined.

Till now I’ve only worked part time (15h a week) but as of mid September I’ll be working full time 37h a week in what I hope to be a dream job. I’m also a single mum to a 5 year old that I have a majority of the time (80/20).

A lot of people I’ve encountered on this course have jobs and families too so I know it can be done but I was just looking for some tips and advice on what helps other people stay motivated, and any study tips whilst juggling it all. I’ve always been a massive procrastinator regarding anything academic so any and all tips would be much appreciated😬

Just because others have jobs or families doesn't mean they are in the same circumstance as you. Do you have support?
I'm a huge advocate of optimism and believing and achieving but as someone who studied and worked with kids I also know we only have so much we can physically do without overload and burnout.
Do you have a support network? If so, call them in, use them.
Plan well. You will need to schedule every hour of your week, prioritise, decide what you will let go, and get things done in the time you've allocated for it. So no procrastinating.
At the end of the day, if it's your dream job, do you have to push to finish your uni, will you want to spend more time investing in learning how to do your dream job really well? Why push yourself so hard when maintaining that kind of pressure for 2 years is probably not a healthy plan.
And if finishing uni fast is more important, then prioritise that and get it done.
Remember you can always change your uni workload if it's not working, take it one semester at a time.
