Losing weight before IVF

Losing weight before IVF

My Husband and I have decided to add a baby to our family. He has no children but I have 5, youngest is 9. We have been together for almost 5 years. I had a tubal occlusion so we will be using ivf and have found a clinic that fits our needs, however I need to lose 40kgs before we can even think about making an appointment.

I don’t eat much but I eat the wrong things when I do. Pasta, bread, chocolate for example 🤦🏼‍♀️

Does anyone have any tips on starting to get into a routine of diet and exercise without failing? I enjoy all foods so what I eat isn’t an issue it’s what I tend to buy when I shop that is my downfall.

Id start buy switching all bread, pasta, rice ect to low GI types. You can also get sugar free chocolate so maybe start trying thw different brands and findnyour favorites.

I’d make an appointment with a registered dietitian. You will save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run.

I know it sounds gimmickey but seriously have a look at healthy mummy. First time I've successfully lost weight after years of half asked trying. Goodluck!

Eat before you go shopping and first thing in the morning after exercise and a healthy breakfast. Also try optislim to kickstart you off, I know not everyone agrees with shakes but they do work and myself and my SIL have both been told to use them by different doctors so they can't be that bad!

I have just rang and booked in with the dietician tomorrow, they had a cancellation and I rang at the right time. All of this was just a dream really, but we made our decision to make it a reality just a few days ago. I’m excited to have something to work towards but I always fail so I’m scared too.

Always see it as a maybe, not a definite. It can be really crushing when you don't succeed with falling pregnant and there's always a chance you will have to say it's just not going to happen. If a baby happens then that is a bonus, along with losing weight! Good luck x

I’ve lost 3kgs in a week. Just another 9 to go before I can start my 2nd IVF journey. I am using an app. Called My Fitness Pal. I weigh and enter everything I eat. I even get to eat treats. I’m drinking 3 litres of water a day. For me it’s the readjusting my diet. What I’m eating and how much of it I’m eating. I’m not going to lie. It’s hard, very hard. But it is worth it. I have a decent set of scales, I have a decent set of food scales too. I eat Capsicum, cucumber and celery instead of chips (but I still also eat chips) at first I was hungry. But after the first week my stomach has started shrinking. I’m not so hungry any more. It’s getting easier and my body is feeling better. It’s something you have to want to do. I still eat bread/potato’s and pasta just not very much of it at all.

I put on 30kg over the past few years and I'm currently in the process of loosing it. I've lost 2kg in 2 weeks so far. I cut out all sugar. I still allow myself natural sugars like honey and fruit though. I have also started walking 1/2 hr a day. It's hard giving up sugar but I feel so much better. I also use the app my fitness pal. Good luck you can do it 🌼

OP here. It’s been 11 days since I started and I’ve lost 2.2kgs. I’m drinking 3-5 litres of water a day because it’s so hot. I’ve cut out the majority of carbs such as bread and pasta and even chocolate! Yesterday I cracked 10,000 steps, actually done around 12,000 maybe more. It will be a long road but I can do it 💪🏻
