Hello Sisterhood,
I have career question - I have been off work for 4 years now raising my young children and am thinking this is a good time to do some study and change my career. I have always wanted to be Social Worker and work in Child Protection but given my age and how long a degree would take it’s just not possible for me. I have been considering doing a course at tafe - Cert IV Child, Youth and Family Intervention. I’m wondering if anyone has done this and what was your outcome? Is it only possible to get work in Residential Care? I don’t mind the idea of helping care for children in care but I’m am worried about what the cares have to tolerate, as in violent attacks etc
What other Child Protection areas can you work in without a degree?

Don't let your age hold you back from studying! I started my Bachelor of Social Work last year - I'll be 40 when I finish. There's a lot of mature age students older than me doing the course as well. It's an area which I really think life experience counts for a lot
Thank you for saying that and I agree...unfortunately I am already 40 and unable to commit to full time study so it would take 8 years to complete! I will find a way to get closer to my dream, just has to be without university qualifications 😊
Dont let your age stop you. I am posting anon as I work in the field currently and the wider community really dont understand the job and what it takes everyday but I love my job. I had a whole other career path before this and my experience has just added to my skills in the work. I am at a manager level within 6 years and I have worked so hard to get here. Everyday is hard work, frustrating, exhausting and heart breaking but so rewarding and worth it, every minute. Child protection is a career and a calling!!!
To answer your question there are so many roles you can enter with a diploma of community services, start looking through Job websites for the position descriptions and get an idea.
