We live in North Queensland small town and have had no active cases as yet. I'm still concerned about sending the kids back on the 25th. Anyone else or am i over reacting? Are we able to keep them home if we decide this is best for us?

Depends if Queensland has made it compulsory. I'm in WA, we have gone from shut down, to opening up again but leaving it to parents to decide, to compulsory attendance as of tomorrow. Kids who are high risk or have a high risk family member can get an exemption. If your family is not high risk I see no reason to keep them home, especially if you have not even had any cases in your area.
Someone else posted almost identical to this from QLD, 5 posts down. Take a look at the comments on that post and see if there's anything in there for you that helps.
These are the guidelines I used to make my decisions.
1. Is my child in a high risk category for getting critically sick
2. Is anyone else in our home in a high risk category for getting critically sick
3. Are there any known cases in our area?
4. Are there any new cases in our area?
In my case 1 and 2 are a resounding YES but 3 and 4 we have had no new cases for 2 weeks and we have no active cases either.
So we are back to normal for now. However I watch the numbers and the cases and we can take a step backwards at anytime if we get a new case or new cases.
Covid-19 is going to be with us for a long time yet, one way or another, so I think it’s going to be one of those situations where we are continually re-evaluating the situation and adjusting our lives accordingly.
I’m the same as u! It is optional at this stage and if it becomes compulsory there is also the option of distance Ed through multiple different schools. I think it is way too soon and it’s crazy that social distancing is not applied in the class room but it is in the play ground!! All along social distancing has been pushed as the number 1 priority and then they just throw it out the window for school. It is not acceptable! Kids can and do get covid and can die! The gov just says what they want to suit the money situation for themselves. My kids lives are way more important and I’d rather wait and see how it plays out!
I think the easing of restrictions and return to school has happened way to soon. I think people who are not high risk, or in close contact with someone who is high risk, just don’t give a damn. They just want to celebrate their freedom. I really wouldn’t be surprised if we are hit with a second wave and end up with even tougher restrictions.
Oh whatever!
Sorry I'm at risk and I am still supporting the easing of restrictions including return to school- it hasn't got anything to do with 'not giving a damn' and everything to do with ensuring our economy doesn't completely crash and things like oh I don't know the healthcare system have enough funding to continue battling the pandemic and the MANY other diseases and illnesses that people STILL suffer despite the world forgetting about them!
If they had better rules in place in schools oh lets say social distancing and smaller classes then i would reconsider! Double standards are not acceptable and of course peoples health is way more important than money!!
Thank you!
I'm sick and tired of being seen as a selfish asshole for supporting the ease of restrictions!
We've lost a significant amount of our income (hospitality fml), I'm desperate for businesses to start reopening and generating a profit again because if it doesn't, poverty due to unemployment will kill us before Covid gets a chance.
It's got nothing to do with my freedom and everything to do with trying to get my livelihood back!
I think in your situation your children should be fine returning to school. My family lives in the metro north health region. It has 5 public hospitals within the region, and has one of the highest number of positive cases in qld. All the news articles I’ve read in the past few months have only said how many cases are in each region, not where they are located within the region. I’m concerned about my children returning to school because my youngest is considered high risk. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet.
I’m going to keep up distance education for my high school boys regardless.
I’m the mum whose 16 year old son is being bullied with the school not helping at all, with the result that my son refuses to attend and cries when forced. He’s doing much better at home, actually working, learning and smiling.
So is his 13 year old brother, who is the boy who was arrested for possession of weed, was hanging out with bad boys and acting like a jerkasaurus. He’s at home actually learning, using best manners, being polite and considerate and not anywhere near those other boys with whom he was misbehaving.
Completely irrespective of covid 19 I know 🤷🏼♀️
Which distance ed school did u go with and how do u find them please? I'm so happy to hear ur boys are happy and doing well now!
Still the same school but they send the work home to me and I portion it out to the boys in small amounts. The younger boy freaks out if he gets all his work at once, so I have him do a small amount each day with some incidental learning snuck in here and there

They won’t do it forever, you’ll have to find a distance Ed school if you want to make it permanent.
So glad things have improved for you.
It could be around for years! Will you keep them home for years?
Just send them. Overall the whole state the kids are highly unlikely to catch anything! 1 in a million chance. My kids are going back and I am one who pulled my kids out 3 weeks before school closure.
