Feedback on the Mirena IUD

Mirena IUD
Hi Ladies I am considering getting a Mirena. Was looking for any positive or negative feedback regarding the side effects etc. Also have heard it is painful to insert. Apparently it can be inserted without anaesthetic, with a local anaesthetic in the cervix or using general anaesthetic, would also like feedback regarding the use of anaesthetic. Also any ladies had it done in Sydney that had a positive experience? I would love to know where you had the procedure done. Thanks for your help 😊

I’ve had two, both put in at my local doctors clinic never with anaesthetic- it’s not that bad!
Bit of cramping after but no periods or side effects in 11 years. I love it, some people hate it. If it isn’t going to work for you you’ll know fairly soon

Worst thing I’ve ever done. Mines dislodged, very painful and been on the wait list for 3 months to have it surgically removed.

I’ve had two - one positive and one negative experience. First one put in by my gyno (which I highly recommend - if you are in Sydney go to Dr Hardas in Blacktown or Norwest he is amazing). My second was out in by my GP, it dislodged, caused a massive bleed and was very painful.
I’m not against them but I would recommend having it done under anaesthetic by a specialist. Having it removed was easy.

I have had the injection, then implanon both for many years.
I had Marina done under general at a day surgery.
I love it. I can get a moody, but keeps family in check...lol

Some times I can feel it if sitting for a long time.

I will get another.

Very painful to insert, I had 2x doctors, a nurse and a mid wife. I had a week of work after it was inserted. For the first 12 months I bleed every few days. Have now had it in for a year and bleed about once every 3 weeks. I am waiting for some surgery at the moment but as soon as that happens, I’m getting this thing out of me. Also finding it incredibly hard to loose weight and I do feel my sleeping and moods have been affected.

Would not recommend. Mine has dislodged, have been on the wait list for over 3 months to have it surgically removed. The pain is awful, sharp slicing pain, plus severe period pain. Had I of known this prior, definitely would not of gone through with it

I lost my sex drive to the point I would cringe about my husband touching me. Had a longer but lighter period. Also had spotting a lot. Got it out and haven’t had a drama since. Had it put in with a local and it’s a second worth of pain. It’s about as uncomfortable as a Pap smear. You don’t need to have a general. I would recommend a gyno or someone with some experience to put it in. My gp is an ob and he was great.

I had one put in for the first time about a month ago. I’ve had 3 kids which apparently makes it easier and while it was definitely uncomfortable and painful it wasn’t thaaat bad. I had cramping for the rest of the day, bled lightly for 2 days then wouldn’t even know I’d had it done after that. Massive downside is that my other half can feel it (the strings) and it actually left him sore. If that’s going to be a regular problem I’ll be getting it taken out!!

Didn't have any problems getting it but had a bad reaction to it unfortunately. I ended up with about half the side effects reported after months of letting it "settle in" so had it removed. Sadly there is no way to tell what your reaction will be.
