Hi IM’s,
I have a young family of 5 children aged from 8 years to newborn, we’ve never been away on a holiday and would love to go away for a week just after Xmas.
Where are some budget and family friendly places within Victoria? I was thinking of booking a cabin near a beach somewhere but most places I look at online are $3,500+ and I feel like that’s a lot of money that I can’t justify.
Please help with some ideas!

The 2 weeks over Christmas/ new year are the most expensive time of year to travel coastal Australia. The following 2 weeks will only be slightly cheaper. Honestly I'd be going before Christmas or from the last week of Jan.
Look at a different time of year. You are premium for after Xmas.
I'm not in Victoria, but have figured out a few ways to save money with kids & holidays.
First, we never travel just after Christmas. Too expensive, hot & overcrowded. We look at different times of year.
Also, look outside the box. So much beauty in Australia is away from the coast.
Look for towns or beach hamlets not on the tourist radar yet. You can find some near major attractions that most tourists ignore, at a much cheaper rate. Last year we went to a popular beach spot, beautiful waterfront accommodation, cheap, no one there.... They were all down the other end! Use Google maps to find them.
