Hi IMs
I have a really great husband - he is a great dad, helps at home, helps his parents and friends.
Before we bought our house and moved, he was a volunteer with our local SES unit. He was there for 10 years. When we moved, he transferred to another unit and only last 6 months. He hated pettiness, politics and backstabbing, so left. We were in an urban area technically covered by CFA and he joined. He has been there for 8 years but the unit has started to change in the last year or so. He and 2 other โoldโ people (DH is 46) have are not being treated particularly well by younger members. His expertise and knowledge is being completely dismissed. I was actually a member there until 3 months ago and ended up leaving because of stupidity and pettiness.
My husband just wants to get involved and help community, especially in emergency type organisations. Where do you and your partners volunteer? Churches\religious organisations are definitely not on our list, but open to other suggestions ๐

Could he help at a menโs shed or a neighbourhood house? Is there a youth centre that could do with an extra helper? I know it sounds odd, but volunteers are often welcome at aged care facilities, just for company for the elderly.
Of course, many of these kinds of things will have to wait til Covid is gone.
What state are you in? I was a volunteer ambo for 5 years, I really enjoyed it. There is sometimes a few egos to deal with but the good thing about ambos is you usually work in pairs and choose when you are on roster so you can avoid any know it all's. If he's done SES he can do ambos. See if your state has a volunteer ambo program.
Not sure what state you're in, but if you have a local St John Ambulance, your husband could volunteer there as an ambulance officer. There are plenty of sub centres around WA that are desperate for vollies ๐
