I want to rejoin the workforce! I have found a job with hours that would suit while my daughter is at school, and i really want to apply BUT
My 9yo daughter has a disability, so I would need someone to look after her during school holidays/public holidays. Due to her disability she needs one on one care so she can't just go to occasional care or after school care.
I have no family and no friends nearby that could help. I'm just wondering how the hell other mothers do it? Her community access care costs $70 an hour so its not worth paying that when I wont be earning anywhere close to that.
Is there something I'm missing? Need some out of the box ideas.. should I just apply and state i cant work weekends/school holidays? I feel like that would just cut me out of the running for the job :(

I feel you, I was lucky my mum babysat my son during these times before we had solutions to his bowel/bladder issues.
What about NDIS funding, could you use some of that?
I do have some ndis funding, but the majority of it is taken up by physio therapy occupational therapy and speech pathology, as well as mobility aids etc. And the little I have leftover for community access care, is the only respite I get to clean the house look after myself, etc
I know, it’s hard, I’m careful how I use mine.

Could you find a uni student needing some extra cash?

Possibly!! I did think about that, I live in a small town though, so no uni here, but I could put a post on a buy swap sell pages and see how i go? I feel a bit dodgy looking for a carer on Facebook though lol
It’s worth a shot, my sister got a lovely uni student, her daughter adored her.
She was pretty and cool and they had a ball.
There are some really lovely girls out there, needing some cash.

Also, a lot of young people out of work at the moment due to hospitality etc.
As an employment consultant I am going to be brutally honest. You are going to struggle to get a job in this current climate with such a large gap on your resume. Usually our agency won’t put people forward for job who have a gap of more than 3 years because most employers want someone with “current” experience, and currently we are not putting anyone forward for positions who were unemployed prior to the pandemic due to the huge volume of applicants we have. Those who have been out of the workforce for an extended period of time and going to struggle to get back in which is why the focus is on those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic as they will be the easiest to get into jobs.
