Is anyone else absolutely crap at being organised?
I look around at other adults, and no one ever seems to do stuff like get to town and realise they’ve left wallet and shopping bags at home, lose their keys almost daily, have 101 house chores and projects unfinished and on the go, bills that have been forgotten, half the shopping done and the other half hasn’t even made it into the list, so there’s only half the ingredients for a meal.
Does anyone else forget to cook or clean because they’re absorbed in other things, or double book appointments?
I seriously couldn’t organise a piss up in a pub, and I’m dreading the day I have to do some serious organising, like someone’s funeral.

Have you ever been assessed for ADD you described it perfectly.
Although I don’t have ADD there are times where I have been like you. I have to have systems in place in order for my life to run smoothly in busier/stressful times. When I come home, my handbag goes on a hook in the hallway and my keys go on the table next to it, every single time. I have to have routines and habits. Appointments are booked into my phone calendar that gives reminders.
I have a reminder to shower!
Wow, have you actually looked into this further, like with a gp. This level of not being able to function is pretty serious.
My routines are pretty set now. When they're not I'm a non hot mess.
I might get to town without my shopping bags but I have my purse. I get in the car and before my seatbelt goes on I physically touch my purse and phone. Check.
I'm a shocker with keys. I have a bowl in a drawer that holds non daily use keys, shed, caravan etc. Car keys go in my work bag. Everytime.
Don't get me started on projects lol. I do my best.
Bills, I set reminders. The day before they're due I get an alarm. Ditto for appts. They go in my calendar and I set an alarm for a few hours earlier.
Currently kicking myself over all the things I don't have after getting Coles to bring me shit yesterday. No butter sucks. I just used the last to make pastry for chicken pie so now I don't have any for risotto. Not to mention everything else.
These routines are what actually makes me brilliantly organised at work. You can bring yourself back into the moment to do these things.
Hope some of these ideas work for you.
Oh, and I don't forget to clean. I just hate it lol.
This is pretty extreme. I'm always super organised, i couldn't live like that.
I want to be super organised, but I can’t ever seem to do it. I have all these ideas for getting organised and no idea how to put them in practice.
This is called executive functioning. I used to suck at this. I was very clever and would wing everything on a whim and could not understand people putting effort into colour coded organisers, highlighted labels, and all that kind of faff.
However, those are strategies. A place for everything. A system for things. A place to keep records. Google executive functioning and learn more for yourself.
This is me, I don’t want to read the comments because I’m sure someone will say you’re add and I don’t want to hear that 😂😂😂
At work, I’m exceptionally organised, with spreadsheets, follow everything up, so I know I’m capable.
