Vaginal birth after shoulder dystocia

Vaginal birth after shoulder dystocia
I’m pregnant with baby number 3, no issues with having a natural vaginal birth with my first (6 pound 6) but come the second, baby was posterior and after pushing for about 2 hours and not getting too far was helped out with the vacuum. Baby’s shoulders became stuck and I was flipped and he was pulled out. He had some minor breathing problems but apart from that, no injuries and I didn’t suffer any tears. (He was 6 pound 9, so not a big baby and not much bigger than my first) I’ve recently been to see my obstetrician who has stated that because of this, I should be considering a c-section for my third pregnancy. Just wondered if anyone has experienced a normal birth after shoulder dystocia.. or not?.. I know essentially it will be my choice as to whether to try and have a vaginal birth again but feel I’ll be pushed into having an elective c-section out of fear of harm to the baby. Obstetrician has said we will monitor size of baby until 36 weeks and I can make a decision then, but I know the baby will be the same size as my others if not bigger so the choice already seems to be made.

I had a shoulder dystocia with my third. He was my biggest baby, 7 lm 7 oz (I’m tiny), and we had the same outcome as you.
I went on to have another son naturally with no issues at all.
I’ll also add that the dystocia baby was also a Vbac after my second son was born c section due to placenta prævia

Thank you for your response; were your doctors/midwives pushing for a c-section? Or they weren’t worried about it happening a second time round? I don’t feel mine was a serious dystocia but my doctor seems like she will definitely push for a c- section.

If the obstetrician is suggesting this then I would listen to them. You will feel much safer having a ceserean. I didn’t realise I should have had my 2nd child by ceserean until I was pregant with my 3rd, my first 2 were that bad that the obstetrician presumed I had ceserean. When I told him no and
He looks up my records he was shocked that they allowed it. I had other complications that took over so I don’t think they even thought about that. My 3rd was ceserean and I am so glad I did. I felt so much calmer knowing the baby and I were both safe and all over very quickly for our safety. If you are told to then I’d seriously consider it. They wouldn’t push for it for no reason. I wouldNt risk it.
