Hi all
Just wanting other parents advice on how much time there kids spend on video games- we are talking about a 10 year old boy here.
I realise it’s school holidays right now, but he sees nothing wrong with staying up till 2am playing. Am I being over the top?
All he wants to do is play, we’ve been doing little day trips and the first thing he wants to do when he walks in the door in jump online. Is this the normal thing for boys these days? He’s limited normally to 2 hrs per day he thinks that’s unreasonable also. And when school goes back only weekends. I really don’t know how to make it not such a fight every time I say times up.

It’s normal to want to play them. Video games are designed to keep you wanting to play.
It’s up to us to set boundaries on that and so while most 10 year olds I know would play constantly if given the chance it’s not good for them to do that. 10 year olds shouldn’t be up playing until 2am, 2 hours a day is reasonable in the holidays.
They still need to be doing a mixture of activities wether it’s school term or not.
We are similar to you. My 15yo is only allowed 2 hours a day on weekdays and 4 hours a day on Saturday and 4 on Sundays. On school weeks , it's just weekends too. The rest of his day he has to choose something else to do. He does sometimes whinge and complain too, but rules are rules in my house, and by 1030pm every night hes sound asleep.
Just have to ger tougher and command respect. Even if it means confiscation until he knows you will follow through and mean what you say
10 years old! Is this a joke? My 9 year old is allowed on til 9 every now and then for a treat. Usually it’s none after dinner
Take the cords or the remote when you want him off. Can confirm it works a treat on a 15yr old, so will definitely work for a 10yr old
