Early pregnancy & brown spotting.

Hi Lovelies,

I recently found out I am pregnant with my second child.

4 days ago, I wiped away a brownish spot. The next day I had another brownish spot. Then the following day I wiped a fair bit of bright pink blood. I spoke to 13Health who advised me to go to the hospital. During my several hours at the hospital, they did bloods, urine and an ultrasound. Whilst there, I wiped away more brownish discharge. HCG levels were good, and the scan showed I was measuring at 5 weeks, 3 days. Could only see the sac, with nothing inside of it. The obstetrician wasn’t worried and told me it was all normal. Today I would be 5 weeks and 4 days, still wiping away brownish discharge. I have been wearing pads and there isn’t anything on them, purely just when I wipe. This morning it was a lot darker, nearly black in colour. But then as the day went on, it was the brown colour, if anything.

Has anyone else ever had this? Did the pregnancy turn out successsful?

It's old blood . Not new blood. It could be the implantation bleed which can happen, is darker in colour as it's old blood, and eventually goes away. But if it starts going red, go back to your GP .

I had this for 20 weeks of my pregnancy, but more of it than you have described,
and i went on to have a healthy baby who is now 20yrs old.

I spotted for 2 weeks with my second pregnancy. I booked an ultrasound and was terrified that there may be nothing to see, but everything was fine. I went on to have a normal pregnancy and healthy baby who is now 5. Take it easy and try not to stress.

I had bleeding daily from 7 weeks, small but there and not enough to use a pad. At 12 weeks, I was in the shower and had a cloth fall out of me that was the size of a cricket ball. I had a friend take me to the hospital and I waited 12 hours for an ultrasound. The emergency room one wasn't picking up any heartbeat but when I went to the official x-ray/ ultrasound you could see and hear the baby and heartbeat instantly.
All the best, I hope it's nothing. I bleed with all 3 of my pregnancies, I have had miscarriages and bled with them but all was ok with my live birth kids.

Yep I had this happen to me late last year. Started out as brighter blood at about 5-6 weeks pregnant. I went to hospital, got the all clear could very faintly see a flicker for heart beat in scan , good HCG etc. The blood progressively went darker before going away completely over the next week.

I was referred to the Early Pregnancy Clinic at our hospital the following week for review. At that stage they did another scan etc and everything all good. I was told that sometimes there is a little rupture (or similar I cant remember specifically the medical term) behind where the embryo had implanted and I was passing that blood.

I am now 19 weeks pregnant and everything is going well!

Hey lovely,

I've had it go both ways. With my miscarriage I had sharp pains for a few minutes, then the brown blood turned to red.

With my third pregnancy I had spotting every two weeks will about 12/13 weeks. It ended up a csection. The spotting was because of the way the placenta and umbilical cord were connected. But other than that a healthy baby and pregnancy.

If you do miscarry, remember you aren't alone. And talk to people, it hurts but talking helps x
