Ritalin

Ritalin

Hi mums

After some personal experiences about kids using ritalin. My 8 year old apparently has traits of ADHD. He has trouble focusing at school big time and often has meltdowns when he is upset/angry. The pediatrician said he's emotionally immature so we are working on that with him. He is very smart so I feel that the meds will help him to reach his potential and not be such a distraction in class.

Thanks

My daughter (8) has been on 10mg for 6 months. They have helped her concentration and school soooo much. In the first four months she went from reading level 3 to level 14 and thats just one aspect of her learning... she said it makes her brain listen BUT she does not like the way they make her feel. Sore tummy, headache, dizzy at times. She has no appetite until about 2.30 then non stop eats. We have a paeds appt next week to talk through options and see if the pros outway the cons.

Oh wow that makes it so hard hey. I really don't know what to think about it atm. I'm a bit scared tbh. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. The more info I get the better.

The beauty of this med is it has a short life, meaning if it isn’t working or causing issues, you can stop cold turkey. It def helped my son, and now he is older he is on concerta (long acting) and a short acting Ritalin on waking to get him calm and ready for the day (we also work with a pysch to work on reducing his early morning anger) it was also a great support for if we were out somewhere and he couldn’t cope, we could give him a Ritalin and the whole experience would be much nicer for everyone (at the advice of the paed)
