Childhood Trauma Counselling & DV Lawyer - Brisbane

Howdy Sisterhood,

Understandably I'm posting this anonymously to protect the safety of my Daughter and Grandbabies (Protection Order).

2 and half years ago, my daughter was held hostage by her husband (bio-dad) for several hours after she'd arrived to drop the children off for an access visit (they'd seperated a couple of months prior) during which time she was violently physically assaulted by her husband whilst the children were in the room. The children were aged 2 &1/2yrs and 18mths at the time of the assault and witnessed the whole prolonged incident. Daughter had to re-locate herself and children 250+km out of Brisbane to live with us (in hiding) whilst waiting for Court proceedings to start. Court Date was set for late-April 2021 and only days before suddenly husband (who hadn't worked the majority of the 4yr relationship) found work involving constant travel throughout QLD and interstate and promptly disappeared, he even ghosted his Lawyer! Of course, the Trial couldn't start without him so proceedings went on hold until QPS could locate him and an Arrest Warrant was issued. A bit over a year later he is finally in Custody and suddenly Court is set to start in a matter of weeks.

I'm looking for recommendations for a Counsellor specialising in Childhood Trauma resulting from DV and a Lawyer experienced in dealing with both the DV issues and Divorce....preferably on the Southside of the River please!!!

Many Thanks,
Grandma

I had a quick look, and I can’t see anything like what your after. So I’m sorry, couldn’t help you there.
I would speak to your local GP and get their recommendations . Quite frankly I’m shocked your daughter waited this long, I would start with a GP or paediatrician and work from there.
Good luck.

I’d contact 1800 RESPECT (or any other DV service) and explain the situation and they should have on their data base information on counselling for childhood trauma as a result of DV, and if lucky enough a lawyer. (Seek a psychologist not a counsellor though as you’ll need more experience that a counsellor can usually offer)

Most counselling/psychologist services that have either had training in this or experience have it listed in their bio (if available on their websites).

Im not local to the area you’re after specifically, but my son saw a psychologist in Caboolture for childhood trauma and he was fantastic. Randomly even after 3 years of not using his service he actually emailed me last year to check in on my son and I.

I wish you all the best of luck 🤞
