Hi IM’s
Has anyone moved from Australia to the states? We have family there so would be moving in with them when until we are settled and find our own place. We have 2 small children, one due to start primary school next year.
What was the hardest part and what was the biggest culture shock.
Any experiences would appreciated.
TIA

I haven't but do have family in the states and the stuff that blows me away, is no medicare if you don't have cash? so make sure you have fabulous insurance in place and be ready for that. Make sure you manage superannuation as it's different there too. No uniform at most schools so keeping up with the jones's is a thing. Fuel is super expensive (family have sold a car for electric push bikes) . We stayed for a month and found good healthy food was expensive, and hard to manage special food needs. That all said there is still a part of me that would probably live there for a couple of years to take it all in. It's got some cool stuff. Kids will have to learn imperial at school rather than metric. Guns scare me too but every state has different rules about them. Good luck!
I’ve only ever lived in the US- and right now, my kids are both planning to move to other countries when they’re older. After the recent major setbacks with health care rights and the failure to protect our children at school, living here just gets more and more terrifying.
That said, you’ll want to get really good health insurance and find areas with highly rated school systems to settle in.
