Easiest way is via an Occupational Therapist, ask for an ADOS assessment but then you’ll need to have a paediatrician to make the formal diagnosis.
What state/area are you in? Some states have multidisciplinary assessment centres.
Have a google autism assessment diagnosis + your area.
Most you will have to wait for. Your GP may also know who is good in your area.
Don’t even bother with school. They don’t have the funding, time or staff to do this. Your child’s teacher will probably be asked to fill in a questionnaire at some point.
School will be free. If you go to a gp you’ll be referred to a public paed which will have a longer waitlist than the school or you can go private, it’s fast but will cost you thousands to see the paed, psych and have the Assessment done.
I'm doing the same for my 11 year old. Their GP referred us to a paediatrician. We were seeing a psychologist who had quoted to do the assessments but didn't believe my child was autistic. The GP believes they show strong traits of autism and ADHD and thinks the paed is the right move.
You may be in for a wait though. We've got an appointment in November at the moment.
