Having trouble with my teenage daughter in school.
The school is saying she is disruptive, leaving class without permission and just really not following the rules.
This is the case but only in certain classes.
We have asked for a learning assessment but they are saying she is fine when doing the work. That is not what my daughter is saying, she is saying she asks for help and just can't understand and gets frustrated thus walking out.
Isolated to only a couple of classes English being the main one.
She struggles to read and write but still no help from the school but how do I get an independent assessment done?
Everything I find has to be driven by the school which they won't support 🤬
We have managed to get her onto a mental health plan with no help from the school as "she does not have real issues compared to other kids."
What is the best way please🤷

Seek out a tutor off your own back?
It’s not rocket science.
I’m not sure how much more you expect the school to do?
Generally these issues if they are there should be flagged before hitting high school. You now have to take the rains find out where she is struggling and get her support in those areas - a tutor is a great place to start. Also it may very well be an attitude change that’s needed as the school feels she is capable of the work.
You don’t need the schools support to get assessed in private clinics. Contact SPELD in your state for advice
If your child needs mental health support, that’s your job, what do you expect from the school?
It’s YOUR child, take some responsibility.
Start with GP.
If your child is struggling to read or write in high school, why aren’t you helping?
Or get a tutor?
I would keep doing home readers until my child could read and if I suspected something was up, like dyslexia, I would have had them assessed years ago.
Again, start with GP, probably referral to paediatrician.
Wow, you’ve done your child such a disservice throughout the years, passing the buck, no wonder she is disengaged at school.
Get her tested for dyslexia and keep fighting for her you’re doing great
If you suspect your child need additional support seek help and find it. Start with a GP and a tutor.
I’m a teacher and even if they do the referrals it takes around a year (depending on state) for any assessment to happen and then even longer before the school is allocated budget to help IF your child qualifies. It’s very hard to qualify for funding and even if you do it won’t be a lot of hours.
