My husband has been offered a position in Vietnam HCMC.
Part of me is very excited and keen the other part is so scared.
We have 3 children aged 14, 11 and 14 months. My oldest will be going in year 10 next year and my middle one will be starting year 7. How do the school terms work?
Can someone who’s lived overseas in particular Asia with a family help me. What do I do about schooling? I’m thinking a international/ private school. Where do we live? I understand there are many different districts. How does day to day life work? I’m interested to know the quality of lifestyle? I understand most people from other countries hire help housekeepers/nanny and drivers? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

What kind of job has he been offered?
Does it pay well?
The international schools cost a bomb over there.
If you were only going for the year, you could get away with a national private school and come back for your year 10er to do their QCE, VCE etc here.
Or, if you are going for longer, you could put the young kids into a private national school and just the year 10er into an international school and move the 11 year old later etc. when they are in year 10 or 11.
Or if you're really well off, you could put them all in an international school.
I think intl schools were around 25 to 40k AUD when I was looking.
From what I know from research, rent is really cheap, its fairly safe, healthcare pretty good and you are close enough to Thailand and its world class facilities for anything major.
I lived and taught in another Asian country, a more expensive one, quality of life is amazing.
I was on a really good local wage, so nothing like my home wage and lived okay, but on a decent home wage, it would be freaking awesome.
Never been to Vietnam but really want to go.
Good luck and embrace and enjoy x
This is amazing! What an experience. I love hochi. Give it a try. Private international schooling. Nanny’s, cleaners, you will find your place. So many amazing place in vietnam to travel too also. Enjoy the journey. Life is too short. Your kids will get the best life experience ever that no school can teach. Go for it!
