Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had to defend their loved ones estate after passing due to somebody contesting the will, if so was it successful. I have no idea what to expect I just recieved a letter and it is significant amount of legal fees if I choose to proceed. Please help?

My mum contested an estate and was successful.
Her father suddenly changed his will a few weeks before passing due to a dodgy family member, we aren't exactly sure what was said, threats made etc.
If the child of the estate contests and proves they need the money, it's all about your respective financial positions, then they will likely be successful and receive something.
It's basically who can prove they're the poorest (out of people who are entitled or mentioned in the Will).
You need legal advice. Anyone telling you an outcome dependent on their circumstances could be setting you up for disappointment as there's lots of factors, and malicious wills, too!
My family member is currently defending his inheritance from his 30+ years partner from her greedy, estranged child who had ignored her for years. He's been told he has to prove she was of sound mind when the will was written (10 years ago) and the child can be told to go to hell.
In another case, a friend contested a grandparent will (all left to relative who cared for her at her own expense, friend barely knew her) and won. I was shocked tbh.
You need proper advice.
A lot of who gets his state in a lot of states depends on what relative you are are you a spouse are you sister brother just a friend. It also depends on the will, was it ironclad was it done by an attorney with a witness, was it notarized? You really need to check on your state laws and see you should be able to see the statistics on how a lot of the ruling you’re made in your state as well I know my state has what’s called supreme court dockets and a lot of times when a matter goes to trial whether criminal marriage divorce record traffic tickets civil, which I think probate would be in but I’m not sure if they don’t quote me on that but a lot of stuff is shown online. Maybe you can research some of the rulings on probate courts and see where the judgment scene to fall at, depending on who is providing the wheel , if all else, fails: a turning ask them how likely it is usually they’ll give you free advice if it’s just a simple question like that. Good luck.!!!
