Career change- from hospitality to a mortuary

I'm looking for to change careers, specifically wanting to work in a morgue or in embalming but I have no idea where to start! I've done some TAFE study involving anatomy where I was lucky enough to visit a cadaver lab at a university, but that is as far as my experience goes. I'm currently a housekeeper (a far cry, I know!), but as my kids are getting older I am wanting to get into something a bit more challenging and rewarding.
I have unfortunately had the experience of losing a child, and while the obvious anguish and emotional trauma affected me greatly, I feel it has numbed me somewhat to the whole experience and I have come out the other side years later with an interest of seeing how it all works. I know it sounds completely morbid, but I feel the experience of having to go to the hospital morgue has fueled my interest.
How would I get my foot in the door? Where would I start with no experience other than a personal one? I would love to work in a hospital morgue or with a small funeral home, perhaps embalming. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go to a funeral home and talk to someone

My son did this for a while. He approached local funeral homes and told them he had an interest in being a funeral assistant (I can't remember the exact wording but that's what his position was called), then he got invited in to one of them, shown around took him straight into the morgue to watch how it's done to see if he could handle it and then they trained him themselves. They don't get a lot of people wanting to work in the industry so if you show you're interested then you will most likely get someone to at least save your details for when they need someone.

Like others have said approach the funeral homes. It’s the best way into the business without a uni degree

My sister is an embalmer.
You will need to do a TAFE course in either Mortuary Theatre Practice or Embalmer. I believe they are just certificates so easy to manage
