You will get a lot of different lunch box brands but basically what you need is an insulated lunch box that can close airtight with ice packs, it's really the only option unless they want to start taking eskies to school. I freeze whatever can be frozen so it's still cool by lunch.
To be honest, after about grade 7 my teens stopped taking lunch to school. The food they were taking was coming home uneaten and getting thrown in the bin. They use their pocket money at the tuck shop if they want something to eat or drink. Occasionally I’ll give them money. The youngest will usually take an up & go or two with him.
I'm super surprised that your primary school had fridges for kids lunches!!! An insulated lunch box with ice bricks will keep food cool for ages. Alternatively, pack a lunch that doesn't need refrigeration. I had 12 years of school lunches without an ice brick or a fridge and I'm still alive (Yes, in QLD heat too).
So many do now. My kids had fridges in their classrooms in WA but not many kids used to actually use them funnily enough.
I'm in Cairns and it's an absolute must.
High school they don't have them and the ice packs really aren't great.
Maybe the OP is in Cairns also?
I mostly just give money for tuckshop.
Montii ice packs are the absolute best. They are still partly frozen at 3pm
