Bypass surgery

Has anybody had the gastric bypass surgery?
I am in my early 30’s and seriously considering getting this done. I am classed as severely obese. I am borderline with my thyroid.
I am so uncomfortable and insecure. I mask this and pretend I am happy with life but deep down I am so miserable.
I have tried all the diets you can think of I’ve been on duromine countless amounts of time, I have signed up to gym’s, PT lessons you name it I’ve done it, nothing I do is working no progress I am defeated.
I need help and this is truly my last option. I’ve been saying for 8+ years how I would get this surgery done in a heart beat.
I would love to know stories. Pro’s and con’s.

The surgery is unlikely to work for you if nothing else has. 3 of my best friends had this done. One acquaintance had it done. My MIL and my husband had it done. My best friends husband had it done.
All but two gained it all back, plus more. Over half the people who have it done gain all the weight back and more after a few yrs. The main reason is bcoz they hadn't fixed their relationship with food, and kept on overeating. Its usually the core reason for all weigh loss failures, no matter the type.

Unfortunately it's not a quick fix solution. It's a major surgery and will have major consequences on your life. I'm obese. I'm 46 and weighed 102kg. So i have tried Duromine, all the diets etc. Nothing worked because I have a horrible relationship with food. That's on me and even though the surgery is tempting as people around me have had some success, it won't work for me. I have started to work out with PT at the beginning of the year and started being more active. I have started walking with some people, walking alone with music etc and it's making a huge difference to me and my relationship with food, even in this short time frame. I was writing everything down and realised I ate when I was bored/stressed. It's like I need to divert my attention for a bit to not eat.

Speak to your GP, speak to a dietitian to work out a plan for you that will work long term.

Ok I had the surgery 7 years ago now. I weighed 130kg at my heaviest and at my Max lost I was 90kgs. I can happily say I have settled at 95kgs would prefer 5 less but I don't exercise or watch my food as I should. It is not the easy fix people claim it to be yes that stigma follows before and after the surgery. People can be very opinionated about it.
I was a late bloomer having children and weight was one of my issues. So I bit the bullet to help conceive my 2nd and to help stay healthier longer. I had my 2nd child at 38.
3 years after the surgery I had my gall bladder out that's a side effect of surgery. And I have to make sure my vitb12 is supplemented weekly. My biggest gripe is I can't drink enough water.
After surgery some people can no longer digest meats or bread and sometimes water. I have to have it cold and flavoured. Weird but that's how it is. Going from 3l of water a day to forcing myself to drink 2 glasses or more is nuts.
I recently advised a friend who was desperate to lose to conceive also and the only negative thing I felt about the surgery was its hard work after.
Mentally you want to see yourself like in the younger days but there will be flabby bits. Going out to dinner sucks as you can't drink 30mins before food and an hour afterwards. Getting the nutrients needed becomes supplements as you definitely won't get it all from your meals. And Mentally yes you will have to change your relationship with food.
I'm happy I had it done even though some days are tuff.

I know of 3 people that had it done and while they lost a lot of weight in the first 6 - 12 months, they have all put the weight back on. Two are back to before surgery weight and the third looks to be getting back there too

I had bypass surgery just before Christmas. Like you I’d tried so many different things and nothing worked for me. I have lost 50kg so far but it is a big mental game. I needed to be in the right headspace and willing to change my relationship with food. If you’re at that point then go for it. I don’t regret it one bit. I feel so much better within myself and my confidence shows.
Edited to add : I’m 37 and wish I’d done it sooner
