Mental Health Support and resources

Hey sisters
Can anyone please help me understand the mental health support and resource system…..
23 yr old has MHCP in place but doesn’t ‘gel’ with psychologist so is seeing another one at the same practice who doesn’t honour the plan….$$$$
23 yr old has also started seeing a Psychiatrist at another practice to obtain a diagnosis for adhd and/or bpd - $450 a session (first one on a zoom meeting 😡) 2nd one with better suited psychiatrist in the same practice and follow up next week.

23 yr old is on Centrelink payments unfortunately, due to not being able to hold a job down because of said undiagnosed condition.
This in turn has now accelerated their mental health by not having enough money to live because of trying to get the treatment they need and also seeking a natural organic approach rather than taking medications (if and when diagnosed appropriately)
It is now at the point where a lot of conversations relate to suicide ideation as they feel they are not receiving the care, support and resources they need by the professionals and feel like they would be better off dead (understanding that diagnosis is complex and a bit drawn out)
They can’t go through the public system as they’re not classed as a category “1” and there are more severe cases to be seen to before them.
They also don’t want to open up and be vulnerable with yet another person.
I would suggest this is part of the bpd condition?
Has anyone else been through something similar? It’s like we’re just going around in circles
🙏🏻

If the MHCP names a specific psychologist, that will be why the second psychologist won’t honour the plan. He’ll need to go back to his GP to get a new plan naming the psychologist he does gel with. If he is talking about suicide then you put him in the car and drive him to emergency, or you call an ambulance to take him. Then don’t leave until he has seen the mental health team.

Get him to login to his Medicare account through MyGov, to see where he’s at with the safety net. Once he reaches the safety net limit he’ll start getting a higher rebate. He’ll still need to pay the full amount at the time of the appointment but will then get a higher amount back that he can then put aside for the next appointment, reducing the amount he needs to then find for the next appointment. Unfortunately the MHCP does only cover 10 appointments (had been 20 the last few years due to Covid, but was dropped back to 10 again this year) with the psychologist.
