I know I did the wrong thing as I still don’t know 100% so don’t come at me please. All I wanted to ever do was help my child.
When my chold was in primary school he was struggling big time and was later diagnosed with adhd and an intellectual disability so I told the school he was part indigenous without actually knowing if his father side was or not.
I did this so he could get some help but it never happened anyway.
Ffwd to 15 years later, we live in housing commission and now they want to change it to an Aboriginal Housing managed house.
I am not indigenous and the house is in my name, so I don’t understand how I would even qualify to stay here.
I never claimed to be indigenous and outright told the powers that be that I could not prove my child’s father was of indigenous descent.
Feeling like a POS right now so just scroll if you want to add to that please 🙏

Just wondering if the "powers that be" was housing directly because they don't always share information. If you ring them up and find out then you will get the right answer.
You must have told housing commission that he's aboriginal as well? If you believed it to be true at the time then you've done nothing wrong. It just shows how easy it is to claim to be aboriginal for benefits, it is more of system failure than anything you have done. Ring them and explain that you are not aboriginal, you only think your child is and that you don't want to switch over.
The things people do because they think indigenous Australians get everything for free! I love it when people see this isn’t the case!
