Hey Mummas,
My brothers wife has taken off with their 18mo child and refusing to let him have any visitation. He has been waiting to get to court for 4 months now. He is losing hope of seeing his son. What are the current typical shared care arrangements for kids his age if they live in the same town?

50/50 unless there is good reason otherwise, ordered by the court. Children deserve both parents and it shouldn’t be up to the mother.
They try to go for 50/50, and that's what normally awarded after a hearing if mediation fails, unless there are genuine safty risks to the child.
Have him tell his lawyer, to try and organise some visitation. Now it's in court, its not like he can just take off with bubby. A recovery order will be granted and it would look really bad in court. Allowing contact will also look good for her in court, and her representation will tell her that. It's just a matter of her listening. Also, has the child been given a ICL? They will also encourage her to do contact. Even if it's in a supervised contact session through a contact centre. It's normally about $50-80 pr hour. She'd be stupid to refuse supervised contact.
If he's through legal aid, don't let him worry about running out of support. We are currently at $55k paid by legal aid. They support in $5k incidents.
