That's a personal choice. For myself, I looked at similar for my kids when similar age & decided against it.
You can only use their apps, require subscriptions to use properly & kids outgrow them very quickly - especially when their friends start using different apps & games.
We bought android tablets & tough cases & we control their access, apps & monitor their use remotely. You can hide the internet app (until they figure it out anyway!). I look at my 8 year old & she'd never use it now.
