We have a male 2yo mini multipoo
He's a great dog but....his barking! It's constant ! It's so bad we can't do it anymore . He is in a home with multiple kids & I think it's too much for him
But I can't get over my ego? I dunno?
to re-home him , I'm ashamed ! As I am a believer in a pet is a pet for life! But I really really do think he would better suit an older family ,perhaps with grown children, I believe he is overwhelmed? .
I feel we have tried everything
Being consistent with saying NO quiet !
With rewarding him when he doesn't bark, spraying him with water when he barks, even a zap collar!- ( his bark is too high pitched for it to work properly)
I don't know what else todo ????
We as a family can not stand it anymore
We've tried for 2 years !
I feel absolutely TERRIBLE as it is
So I don't need any mean comments , maybe recommendations?
We are located in central Queensland

I’m only asking because you didn’t mention it but have you sought advice from a vet? There might be a medical cause, it could be anxiety, he could be bored or understimulated, is he getting enough exercise? Is he getting enough rest? Perhaps there’s some more specialised training that could help…
Either way, I’d consult a vet before making any big decisions.
Having said that.
A pet is a pet for life is a nice sentiment but it’s not always realistic. Re-homing is often the kindest, most responsible thing you can do as a pet owner if the fit isn’t right or if the animal isn’t coping well in the environment you have to offer.
Keeping him purely because your ego can’t take the hit is pretty unkind. The dog’s well being and quality of life has to be your main concern!
Thankyou, I hadn't thought to bring it up to the vet , I will be making an appointment ! We have Acreages that he runs on , he has plenty of toys, but maybe I'll do a toy swap
The whole reason of this was to not be unkind to him, i thought I was doing the right thing by ' sticking it out' and trying to make it work
Thankyou xxxx
If you use a shock collar it needs to be one that is activated by vibration, not sound. It also needs to be put on properly (very tight and right at the throat, not on the neck like a normal collar).
But it's also recommended to check if it's legal in your state. A few states in Australia prohibit the use in their animal protection laws.

Look at local dog obedience clubs as they are great for mental stimulation! Around here they are super affordable and brilliant. Speak to the vet about the issue as well - it could be anxiety related.
