Hi IMs. I am a SAHM who is craving something more. I would like to wake up each morning with more purpose than what I have now. I have been inspired by many women in these last couple of months including our leader Kristy Vallely, IMs and many other women in my life (and Facebook and Instagram feeds). I have decided to become a photographer. I've always had an interest and am excited to get started. I would really appreciate some guidance on how to get started. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've looked into TAFE courses but they request a portfolio with your application. I take great photos (if I do say so myself) but they are completely unedited. I have no idea on how to use Photoshop. Has anyone been in my positon before? Where did you start? Thanks IMs! Xx

You could try some short courses. In adelaide we have the WEA which runs short cheap courses in various areas. They usually run photography (once a week at night or weekends) and usually have computer courses too. Might be a good starting point. So you can get your portfolio together.
You've probably got something similar where you are.
Good idea above, in NSW it's community centers that run a lot of short courses or else contact some local photographers. A lot of them run private classes teaching editing etc that may be of use to you before the Tafe course.
Good luck!! I hope it works well for you
I own a photography business which I started as a mum also. It's a great career path that you can most definitely be flexible with in working around your family life. I would suggest submitting your portfolio as raw, true looking photos. Sometimes natural shots can be the best captures. Just remember that studying at TAFE is about learning, if you have an eye for photography, the assessers of your portfolio will be able to see that, edited or unedited. Your confidence sounds amazing, follow your dream :)
A local camera club may be of some use also :)
