ust a question ... Where do you go to educate yourself on work rights. Have this daunting thought over my head.
Have recently been employed full time... Love my job... Also found out about my surprise pregnancy double wammy but very happy none the less.
Question is my understanding is to have leave you need to have worked 12 months with your employer? I was honest with employer so new I was pregnant before I signed my contract.
Now what happens when I need to stop working or my baby is born?
Will I be forced to quit my job... Or are there rights I'm unaware of? Have looked at fair work and national employment standards and are difficult to understand with plenty of grey areas. Is anyone educated in these areas ?
Started my employment 13th of July with a brand new business who was suppose to open in June but was delayed due to renovations and approvals.
I'm now 18 weeks pregnant due late Dec early Jan.
Ideally I'd like to keep my job but obviously need some time off 6 months min.

Fair Work is normally the best place for this type of info, but from personal experience (fell pregnant unexpectedly and had to finish up before my 12 months was up) the employer is under no obligation to keep your job open. I resigned from mine finishing up at 37 weeks, however my employer at the time strongly encouraged me to stay in touch and contact them if and when I was ready to return to work and they would do their best to find me a position within the company. ETA: we ended up moving interstate before I could think about going back to work.
My advice would be to ask the employer if they would consider allowing you to return to the company in some capacity once you're ready. If they're happy with you I can't see why they would want to waste your talent by not making some sort of arrangement with you.
