Lots of memories, bonding times, problem solving, and fresh air does amazing things!!
If tents aren't your style, just find a remote cabin (most fit 3 kids and have bunk style which kids get very excited about!) and you'll then have less to pack (and forget! ha ha!)
I find it also helps the kids to be grateful for what they have back home too. You don't need a lot to enjoy yourself and you don't need to be entertained all the time!

Camping, especially if you can borrow the equipment from someone else. Love camping, loved it as a kid and love it as an adult.
