Family trouble

Hi all, I am after some advice and where to go to get help....... Some back ground I have been married for 3 and a bit years and was with him since 2004, we have 4 children all up 3 to my ex and one his and mine, around 2 years ago we moved in with my mum as I was not well and thought it would be a good option money wise and such, well last week I had to tell him to go because my mum did not want him around and neither did 2 of the other kids, my mum has never liked my hubby in the first place and they both did try to get along but it just never worked out. I feel that because my mum does not like hubby and has said some not so nice things that 2 of the kids have now said that they are scared of him, I am worried that my mum has filled there heads with this stuff and it is making life very hard, I am having trouble dealing with this all, yes we have all had our problems in the past and things have come to a head, I made him wait to get married as I did not want to end up in divorce, I have been thinking about going to counseling separate first and then as a married couple and then family as well to see if this can get us past it, I just don't know where to go for this type of thing that won't cost an arm and a leg, I live close to cairns and will take any advice as I want this to work and so does he I am not sure about the kids but I figured if they saw something good going on maybe it will help

Also in cairns, with health care card Relationships Australia are around $35 per season, some/half services are free depending.

best thing we ever did was start counseling.

Your Mum is your Mum but why are you allowing her to put a wedge between you and your husband?
I'm sorry but to me it sounds like a toxic situation and I would be trying to move out of your mothers house and being a family with your husband. You said you made him wait because you didn't want a divorce and yet you have asked him to leave. Fight for him, find out the truth, get to the bottom of what is going on.
I agree that counselling is a great idea. No marriage is perfect, we all have our ups and downs, i think most of us have had our problems in the past. It's how we choose to deal with them that makes the difference.
I'd be having a good unbiased talk with your two children that "don't want him around" his been around them for 10 years why change their minds now? I don't believe anyone including your mother has the right to criticise your partner in front of your children.
Good luck.

Get a referral from your dr for counselling, then you get a certain amount of sessions free. Also if you go direct to a counselling place some of them have a sliding scale of their fees so depending on how much you earn you may end up paying a bit less.
