Fostering

Fostering

I've always been extremely interested in foster parenting. I have a darling 4year old who is off to primary school next year and even though I work part time, I still feel like I have plenty of time and love for another child and with my beautiful boy off to school next year that will free up even more time!!! Can someone point me in the right direction to get more information on fostering? Also do any foster parents have any extreme pros and con when it comes to fostering as a whole? I have a tonne of questions but if I can get onto the right organisation, I can get all of my questions answered by them, thanks in advance

I looked into foster caring and there are many types of foster care you can do. You can do respite, emergency or permanent. Its a lengthy process to go through and you can be knocked back because of someone that doesn't even live in your home but are associated with you. Also if you have a pet dog (in my state of SA) you would have to have your dog locked in a 'run' away from foster child (something I couldn't do). The foster child would need to have their own bedroom. If you do emergency care you would need to take time off of work when a new child comes into the home. I would suggest taking on children who are younger than your child as of course these children can be quite damaged and your older child is less likely to influenced by a younger child. If you google foster care and your state you should find some organisations in your area. Most run information evenings with current foster care parents available to talk to.
