Moving to Townsville

Moving to Townsville

My husband and I are thinking about moving to Townsville. We have a house deposit but would like to rent first to get a feel for the different areas. Any suggestions on:
- Good/bad suburbs
- schools (preferably from prep-12)
- Hospitals (husband has Lupus, we already see a specialist in townsville)
- Maternity/parenting in general
- average prices

We also both currently work in Mining - suggestions for where to look for any Mining and Resources jobs?

Thanks in advance!! :)

Townsville is a small town really, a military town consisting of 3 military bases. There is only 1 public hospital and 1 private hospital (although there are a few private dr around depending on what you need). As far as living, do you want to be by the beach on a small block or apartment, or further out on a large block. Do you want to be close to the city. Public, private or catholic school? some of the better public schools are capped so you have to live in the area. Best bet is to look on the myschools website to see the schools rating and see if they align with the kind of education you want for your kids. Prices anywhere from 200k to millions depending on where you want to live. And there arent any mining jobs in tville. They are all fly in fly out - and fyi, tville is not a mining base, which means you will have to pay out of your own pocket flights from tville to capital city for connecting flight. If you could be more specific with what you are looking for i can help you out a lot better (ex tvillion 20yrs)

Hi there love, I'm from Townsville and lived there for a good 20 years. It is far from the small town that anonymous responded to you. I also work in the mining industry and am flown directly from Townsville airport to site, so "anonymous" knows nothing about that either . Where are you coming from? Townsville is a lovely place, as far as good suburbs to live goes, is recommend mt Louisa, kirwan, north shore, Annandale, riverside gardens, Douglas as all these places are really affordable for the quality of home you get and good neighbourhoods. There is a few crime hotspots in kirwan a be careful which side of the suburb you rent on, if you look on a map try and head away from garbutt, Heatley, Vincent area and head more toward Condon and Kalynda Chase. There's a nice little estate in kirwan called greenwood, it's a good neighbourhood with affordable housing. Definitely steer clear of garbutt, Heatley, Vincent, rosslea, oonoonba, railway estate and South Townsville as these suburbs are pretty dodgy. My pick of the bunch for accomodation and schooling (if you have kids) would be Annandale and for location and shopping is suggest kirwan/ thuringow. Hope this helps! Good luck

Thanks so much! Very helpful! My job is currently a FIFO position to Mount Isa but I live residentially. Would like to live local in Townsville if possible. I don't mind so much if i can't stay in the industry but my husband will want to stay in Mining and Resources.... Anything like power stations, quarries, plants, etc
