Newborn not settling.

Newborn not settling.

Hi all. Quick question. I've been told that the first few weeks with a newborn are the most difficult. But I wasn't expecting my 2 week old to literally cry for 3 or 4 hours straight. Is this normal??? I'm still so physically exhausted and am finding it really difficult to settle her. Any tips?? I've tried infants friend. I'm not super convinced that worked. Please help!!! I need sleep!!!!!!
Thanking you!!!!

Those first weeks can be awful!! And some babies are just not as settled as others. Something I found helped with my son was having him sleep on an angel. So head slightly raised above his feet. We did this by putting one end of his cot on blocks. Some babies respond well to white noise. We also had some luck sleeping in a pram or capsule rather than the cot. Again I think that was because he slept more upright position.

Is she breastfed, if so I found certain foods made my kids more irritable. No goes were chocolate, fizzy drinks, too much brocoli/caulieflower and onion. Also foods with added preservatives too I found had an affect. So I try to eat as basic as I can with no jars/packet foods.

Also I just demand feed, if bub wants a feed 1.5hrs after the previous I don't deny them. I feed to sleep then put then upright resting on my chest so if they have wind they can get it up.

She is breastfed. Hmmm. I knew about onion and tomato not being so cool.... Chocolate too? Devastating. Haha.
Good idea to sit them up while seeing. At this stage I'm willing to try anything. I'm literally sitting here at 1am with a hysterical baby. I've got lavender on in the humidifier. I've tried gripe water. Useless.
Thank you for your suggestions.

They're all different. My first one did and second one doesn't cry at all, has really distinct cries & its easy to know what she wants. It's exhausting because it's constant 24/7 but seek help from Dr / midwife if she's crying constantly. Meanwhile try holding her or carrying her on you. Feed whenever she wants, and try to catch the signs of tiredness- yawn, hand to eyes, eyes looking away , turning head away, nestling face into you) and help her to sleep ( feeding, rocking, sling/wrap &walking, singing/ ride in car whatever works ) before she gets overtired and worked up. Good luck.
